Social media is an important place for non-profit organizations to reach their target audience and spread awareness. Though non-profit organizations are supposed to focus on the goal of their initiative, social media can be crucial to helping their business. They can track all types of metrics and how to improve their company.
The Feeding America Organization is an organization that is trying to support everyone worldwide to have access to healthy food. They are concerned for safety and the laws being put in our country to allow food access to those who need it. On Instagram, Feeding America’s page has 164,000 followers, with 1,392 posts. Their likes ranging 20 to 78,000 likes. Their posts are all about statistics, maps of food, pictures of the events and things they do, informational videos, and so much more. They include different holidays for every religion; they give opinions on the debates however, instead of making it about the president-to-be, they say how it can affect food banks and how it can help them.
I believe to better make their Instagram; they should make more hands-on posts. Posts that allow the public to pitch in. This time of year is the perfect time to do some sort of fundraiser for people who don’t have as much access to food as others. They can make donation bins at grocery stores for canned goods and raise money to buy little Thanksgiving meals for families who can’t afford to have their own Thanksgiving meals. On their Instagram, I think they should focus more on the sharing of the community (advanced metrics), social referrals (channel metrics), and click-through rates (behavioral metrics.) The second social media platform that I chose to look through is the Feeding America Facebook webpage. Their Facebook is not as popular as their Instagram. They get about 20 to 7,000 likes per post. I believe this is because they don’t post here and showcase as often as they do on their Instagram account. This is confusing to me, though, because the Facebook account has all the things that I thought Instagram should’ve had.
I think that they need to morph the opposites that the websites have together. The characteristics that Instagram has, Facebook needs, and the characteristics that Facebook has Instagram needs. The Facebook account needs to have a share of voice and conversation reach (advanced metrics). More insights and URL links (channel metrics) and downloads (behavioral metrics). These can all help their Facebook page grow even more because it needs to reach a bigger audience with more information overall to keep track of. Instagram is so focused on videos, educating, and informing the world about what their company is and why they have it. What they, as a non-profit, want to do to help the world and their communities. Without keeping track of their metrics on social media, it will be hard to improve their non-profit.
